Motorists may apply for motorcycle drivers license in Texas, if they want to legally operate their motorcycles on public state roads. The process of applying for motorcycle license must be performed through the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TX DPS). A full bike license is issued to drivers who have completed a DPS-approved motorcycle safety course and who can submit the certificate of completion at a local TX DPS office.
In order to get motorcycle license in Texas, applicants may have to satisfy different steps, depending on their age. For instance, applicants between 15 and 17 years of age are required to first obtain a learner’s permit or a provisional license and complete a driver’s ed course, after which they will have to present the certificate of completion of the classroom part. Drivers will have to submit proofs of identity, Social Security Number (SSN), TX residency and of legal status in the state. Moreover, they will have to pass a vision screening, written knowledge exam and a motorcycle driving skills test. Motorbike driving license applicants may be exempt from taking the driving test if they are at least 18 years of age, if they are holding an out-of-state license, if they have completed a motorcycle safety course and hold a standard license, or if they are applying for a motorcycle learner’s permit.
