A CDL drivers license in Texas is needed when motorists want to operate commercial motor vehicles either for interstate or intrastate commerce. Drivers who want to get a commercial drivers license must perform an application procedure through the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TX DPS) and choose between Class A, B or C CDL license.
To obtain a commercial drivers license, applicants need to visit a local TX DPS office and complete the necessary application form. Along with the application form, motorists need to verify their identity by presenting one or several documents, depending on their specific situation. Moreover, they will be required to submit proof of TX residency, Social Security Number (SSN) and proof of Texas vehicle registration and liability insurance on all vehicles registered in the individual's name. In addition to the TX CDL information, applicants will have to satisfy the self-certification of medical status by providing a medical examiner certificate. Motorists who are from a foreign jurisdiction need to meet the nonresident commercial requirements. Furthermore, applicants need to complete a supplemental application and pass both the vision and the knowledge exams. The process of getting a commercial drivers license will require motorists to provide their photographs, fingerprints and signatures. The motorists must also pay the CDL license cost and provide their own commercial vehicles for the driving.
